WHAT IS XTANE?

 

 - XTANE belongs to a group of drugs known as aromatase inhibitors. They affect the enzyme that is called aromatase and is necessary for the production of female sex hormones of estrogen, especially in postmenopausal women. Lowering estrogen levels in the body is one of the hormone treatment methods dependent on breast cancer.

 - XTANE is used to treat hormone-dependent breast cancer at an early stage in postmenopausal women, after taking 2-3 weeks for tamoxifen.

 - XTANE is also used to treat hormone-dependent advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal Women in whom previous treatment with different hormonal drugs was not effective enough.

- XTANE is not suitable for use in children.

 

 XTANE CAN NOT BE PRESCRIBED IF YOU ARE:

  •  Allergic to exemestane or other ingredients of this medicine

  •  not in the "menopause", i.e. if you still have menstruation,

  •  pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding

 

WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:

 Talk to your doctor before taking XTANE:

-  If you have a liver or a kidney disorder

-  If you are taking listed drugs:

-  rifampicin

-  carbamazepine or phenytoin

 

PREGNANCY, LACTATION , AND DRIVING:

- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding  XTANE should not be used

- If you experience anxiety, drowsiness, dizziness, or nausea during treatment with this medicine, you should not operate vehicles or to work with machines.

 

HOW IS XTANE TAKEN?

- Adults and elderly people

- XTANE  should be taken on the mouth after a meal, at about the same time each day.

- The recommended dose is one tablet of 25 mg per day.

 

Application to children

 - XTANE is not suitable for use in children

 

WHAT ARE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?

 - Insomnia

 - Headache

 - Hot flush

 - Nausea

 - Increased sweating

 - Pain in the muscles and joints (including osteoarthritis, back pain, arthritis and stiffness joints)

 - Loss of appetite

 - Depression

 - Dizziness, carpal tunnel syndrome (a combination of tingling (like needle-stick) numbness and pain, which affects the entire fist except for the fingertip)

 - Abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, digestive disorders/diarrhea

 - Skin rash, hives, itching

 - Hair loss

 - Thinning of the bones, which can reduce their strength (osteoporosis),

 - Pain, swelling of the fist and feet.

 - Reduction in the number of white blood cells

 - Hypersensitivity reactions

 - Drowsiness

 - Liver inflammation (hepatitis), liver inflammation leading to jaundice (cholestatic hepatitis)

 - Elevated liver enzymes

 - I ncreased blood bilirubin (arising from the breakdown of blood pigments)

 - Elevated alkaline phosphatase in the blood (one of the indicators of damage to liver function)

 - An occurrence of small bile in the skin with rash (acute generalized exanthematous pustule)

 - General weakness

 - Reducing the number of blood platelets
